Last Updated: February 4, 2026

The following Terms and Conditions apply to purchases through www.tapin.studio. By placing an order, you confirm that you have read, understood, and accepted these Terms and Conditions, as well as our Privacy Policy and Cookies Policy.

To place an order, you must be 18 years or older with legal capacity to contract. All purchases must be made by the final consumer. Purchase by minors is prohibited.

1. COMPANY INFORMATION

Legal Entity: Tapín VOF
Registration Number: 92848990
Registered Address: Dollebegijnensteeg 5B, 1012 HD Amsterdam, The Netherlands
VAT Number: NL866193303B01

Tapín reserves the right to modify these Terms and Conditions at any time. The version accepted at order placement governs that transaction. Material changes will be communicated to registered customers via email. These Terms are provided in English; in case of disputes, the English version prevails.

2. PRODUCTS

2.1 Product Information

Each product listing includes design name, photographs, material composition, size specifications, production timeline, price (including or excluding VAT depending on location), and available customization options. Product photographs are for reference. Due to handmade nature and natural materials, actual products may vary from photographs without affecting essential characteristics or quality. Colors on screens may differ from actual products. We recommend requesting material samples before ordering.

2.2 Handmade Product Characteristics

All Tapín rugs are handmade using traditional Tibetan knotting techniques. As authentic handcrafted pieces, they possess natural characteristics that are evidence of quality, not defects. Final dimensions may vary up to 5% from specifications. Dyed colors may vary up to 5% from samples, and undyed colors may vary up to 5% from samples due to animal, season, and altitude variations. Hand-dyed yarns show subtle shifts between batches. Initial fiber shedding is normal during first months. Occasional yarn tufts may rise above pile surface (sprouting). Slight irregularities in pile height and natural shading from pile direction changes are inherent to hand-knotting. All natural fibers age and develop character over time, responding to humidity and temperature. By placing an order, you acknowledge and accept these natural variations as integral to handmade luxury.

2.3 Made-to-Order Production

Every Tapín rug is made specifically to order. No ready-made stock exists. Production begins only after order specifications are finalized, 50% deposit payment is received, and order confirmation is sent. Current production timeline is 12-16 weeks from order confirmation and deposit receipt. For rugs over 10m², production time may be longer due to increased complexity. This timeline reflects the time required for skilled artisans to hand-knot each piece using traditional techniques.

2.4 Custom Orders

All designs can be customized in size, color, or material composition. Custom orders require a sample approval process before production begins, extending the total timeline. The process: submit specifications, we create samples, you review and approve samples, 50% deposit payment required after approval, production begins after deposit received, standard 12-16 week timeline begins after sample approval and deposit payment. Custom specifications must be confirmed in writing before production begins. Once production starts, no modifications can be made.

2.5 Product Availability

All products are made to order and therefore always available, subject to artisan workshop capacity, material availability, and confirmation of specifications. In rare circumstances where production cannot be completed as specified, we will notify you immediately, offer alternative solutions or timeline adjustments, and provide a full refund of all payments received if no acceptable alternative exists.

3. ORDERING PROCESS

3.1 Placing an Order

Select products, specify customization, provide delivery details, and complete payment through our secure system. Upon successful deposit payment (50%), you receive email confirmation containing order specifications, deposit amount, remaining balance due, and estimated production date. This confirmation forms a binding contract.

3.2 Contract Formation

A binding contract is formed when: you submit a complete order, 50% deposit payment is successfully processed, and Tapín sends order confirmation via email. Orders are not binding on Tapín until confirmation is sent.

3.3 Modifications and Cancellations

You may modify or cancel within 24 hours of confirmation by contacting info@tapin.studio. After 24 hours, production preparations begin and no modifications or cancellations are possible.

3.4 Right to Refuse Orders

Tapín reserves the right to refuse any order before confirmation in exceptional circumstances (suspected fraud, incomplete information, payment disputes, inability to meet requirements, or technical errors). If refused after deposit payment, full refund processed within 14 business days.

4. PRICING AND PAYMENT

4.1 Prices and Currency

For EU customers, prices are displayed in Euros (€) and include applicable local VAT.

For international customers, prices are displayed in local currency and exclude local VAT, duties, and customs charges. These taxes, duties, and customs charges are entirely the customer's responsibility and must be paid upon delivery. You are liable for all import costs in your country. All prices include the cost of the hand-knotted rug and free worldwide shipping.

4.2 Payment Methods and Security

We accept credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) through secure 3D Secure protocol. All payment transactions are processed through secure, encrypted payment gateways. Tapín does not store complete credit card information.

For credit and debit card payments, we use secure payment gateways with 3D Secure authentication (Verified by Visa and Mastercard SecureCode). This additional security layer requires authentication through your card issuer before transaction approval. Your payment information is transmitted directly and encrypted (SSL) to the financial institution. We never have access to your complete card details.

4.3 Payment Terms

A minimum deposit of 50% of the total order value is required before production begins. Your order enters production only after 50% deposit payment is successfully processed, all order specifications are confirmed, and order confirmation is sent. Production does not start until deposit payment has been received and cleared.

The 50% deposit represents a genuine pre-estimate of costs incurred, including design development, material allocation, artisan scheduling, production preparation, and production start.

The remaining 50% balance is due after your rug completes production and passes quality inspection at our Amsterdam studio, before shipping to you. You will receive an invoice for the final payment when your rug is ready for shipment.

Invoices and quotes are valid for 30 days from date of issue unless previously agreed. If payment is not received within this time, we may need to reissue the invoice with updated terms.

For custom and made-to-order rugs, once the deposit has been paid and production has started, the rug is non-returnable and non-refundable unless there is a fault with the rug covered under our warranty. The 50% deposit may only be refunded if you cancel within 24 hours of order confirmation, before production preparations begin.

4.4 Payment Failure

If deposit payment fails or is declined, you will be notified immediately, the order will not be confirmed or processed, and you may attempt payment again or contact us for assistance.

If final payment fails or is not received within 30 days of invoice, your order will remain on hold and the rug will be retained by Tapín until full payment is received. We may need to reissue the invoice with updated terms.

Extended non-payment (beyond 90 days) may result in order cancellation with forfeiture of your 50% deposit. In this case, the rug remains property of Tapín and you forfeit all rights to the rug and your deposit.

4.5 Invoicing

An invoice for the 50% deposit will be provided via email upon order placement. An invoice for the remaining 50% balance will be provided via email when your rug completes production, passes quality inspection at our Amsterdam studio, and is ready for shipment. For international customers, final invoices will include applicable customs values and documentation. All invoices are valid for 30 days from date of issue unless previously agreed. If payment is not received within this period, we may need to reissue the invoice.

5. DELIVERY AND SHIPPING

5.1 Production and Delivery Timeline

Production time is 12-16 weeks from order confirmation and deposit receipt (see section 2.3 for complete production details). After production, your rug arrives at our Amsterdam studio for quality inspection before shipping to your address. Free worldwide shipping is included in all prices.

5.2 Ownership and Risk Transfer

The rug remains property of Tapín until full payment is received (both 50% deposit and 50% final payment). Goods will not be shipped until the total balance has been paid.

Risk transfers to you upon delivery to the address you provided. Until delivery, we bear the risk of loss or damage during shipping. Tapín maintains insurance on all shipments until successful delivery.

5.3 Complete Shipping Information

For complete details about delivery procedures, international shipping, customs documentation, signature requirements, damaged shipments, and all shipping-related matters, please see our Shipping Policy.

6. RETURNS AND CANCELLATIONS

6.1 No Returns Policy

All Tapín rugs are made specifically to your order and cannot be resold. We do not accept returns or exchanges on completed rugs. Once production begins (after the 24-hour cancellation window), your 50% deposit is non-refundable and the rug is non-returnable, except for manufacturing defects covered under warranty or properly documented shipping damage.

6.2 24-Hour Cancellation Window

You may cancel your order for a full refund of your 50% deposit within 24 hours of order confirmation by contacting info@tapin.studio. After 24 hours, production preparations begin and cancellations are no longer possible.

6.3 EU Consumer Rights

Under EU Consumer Rights Directive (2011/83/EU) Article 16(c), custom-made goods are explicitly excluded from the standard 14-day withdrawal right. Because every Tapín rug is made to your specifications, standard EU withdrawal rights do not apply. The 24-hour cancellation window is provided as a courtesy.

6.4 Exceptions and Complete Policy

Returns are accepted only for manufacturing defects covered under warranty or damage during shipping. For complete details about returns, warranty coverage, and claim procedures, please see our Shipping Policy.

7. WARRANTY

7.1 Warranty Coverage

Tapín provides a two-year warranty against manufacturing defects on all rugs, beginning from the date of delivery.

Not Covered: Natural variations in handmade products, normal wear from use, improper care or cleaning, staining or soiling, sunlight fading, pet damage, third-party modifications or repairs, issues after the two-year period.

During Force Majeure: obligations are suspended, timelines may be extended, we will minimize impact and communicate with affected customers. If a Force Majeure event persists for more than 90 days, either party may terminate the agreement.
